Autumn: A Sestina, by The Irish Child Subscribe to rss feed for The Irish Child

The summer skies fade away
As the silent autumn days return
Once more, the leaves disperse from their mothers
Hold me now, and forgive me, it’s been too long
We sink to the ground with a light landing once more
Let beauty mesmerize you this time

The rivers show no signs of time
As they carry me away
And they caress me even more
As the waves retreat and return
The river’s journey feels so long
And leaves me thinking about my mother

We were weaned and loved by our mother
She showed slow age in time
Her arms were growing long
And the ground seemed more and more far away
She told us we would never return
But to cry no more

She would wipe our tears once more
She says don’t forget your mother
You will never return
It is almost time
For you to glide away
Don’t look back and you will never long

I remember but it’s been so long
I look back just once more
As I gently float away
I think about my mother
Oh, what is this time?
I will be forgotten as winter will return

I wish I could return
To the nurse I was stuck to for so long
Oh, for the sake of health and time
I remembered once more
About my fragile mother
Who would soon die away

My mother has passed away and her seed will return
She to soon be a mother, will live as long
As her mother before, for a long time

I loved reading this poem. It's really good. Kinda reminds me of a song called "Wake Me Up When September Ends" (Sorry, I'm a Green Day maniac)
