I would call 

"Scrappy, Tails", 

and you would come out of nowhere wagging your tails and
panting hard just to sit by me.

Now I sit and look out at the empty yard.

"No Scrappy and no Tails"

life is horrible

I would sing and you would listen

now my voice just drifts away

I prefer before better than after
