We could've been everything,
But I didn't want to risk what we had,
I thought I was saving our friendship,
But it turned out that idea was bad,

By denying us our love,
I ruined our friendship anyway,
I can't change the past,
I regret that every day,

I was sitting on the bus,
Trying to understand,
That's when I saw you with her,
Together, holding hands,

And I realised for the millionth time,
That the blame belongs with me,
I guess I'll spend a life of heartache,
Contemplating my stupidity,

You told me that you love her,
And you shot my denial dead,
"I couldn't look anyone in the eyes,
But I just stare at hers" you said,

I almost wish you didn't add,
"That is except for you,
Your eyes are such a pretty colour"
That tore me straight in two,

I had my chance - I lost it,
I guess I should move on,
But I wonder what we could've been,
And if we'd had lasted long,

You gave me reason to smile,
You gave me reason to sing,
I guess it hurts so much,
Because we could've been everything,
Everything.
