Sunny Days, by thndrhwk Subscribe to rss feed for thndrhwk

Closing my eyes
To the empty sky
I sit on the grass,
Prickling my legs with an unexpected sharpness
And listen to laughter in the streets.

The day is hot,
Draining sweat from my body
Draining sweat from my mind
With a sickly-sweet scent
That leaves me craving shade
But I stay and take it in;
There is no shade for me today.

I hear your voices
And I wonder
What now if you talked to me?
Would you ask me
Why I'm sitting
In the sun I can not see?
Can not look at it;
Just at it's effects.
But that's a conversation
Which will never occur
As I know too well.

I open my eyes
Sun-bleached, near blind
To the faded colors that now appear
Whites so brilliant
They're turning blue
Like the cornflower sky
Hanging empty and dry
And my skin pale as long-gone carrion,
Like a hallow dream,
And I wait for the night.
