Night Fishing
I sat beside a babbling brook
Under leaves of burnished red
Quietly I waited for a bite on my hook
All the birds had gone to bed

The pale August moon shown her luminous ray
Down on the earth so dark
It was so peaceful and quiet I decided to stay
Off in the distance I heard a dog bark

That was the only sound that I heard
Except night sounds like crickets and frogs
And the chirp of a night bird
Then I moved myself to a clump of logs

On the logs I seemed cut off from the world
All alone in a place of my own
A long time I sat with my legs under me curled
And I thought about Switzerland and Rome

I think a lot about far away places
When I'm alone and at peace
Eventually my mind returns to familiar faces
Then all my mind wandering does cease

So here I am perched on some logs
Waiting for a bite on my hook
In the distance is the barking of dogs
And the sound of the babbling brook

I think I'll go home. It's getting late
The fish are not biting tonight
Tomorrow I'll bring some different bait
And do my fishing in the light.
