and my brain rolls on, by Anna Lorena Subscribe to rss feed for Anna Lorena

why is it always that when we need each other most
the phrase
'it happened again
to one of them'
turn into
'its happening now
to one of us'?
how do we deal with changes-
shifts in the fabric of time and space-
that we are ill prepared to cope with?
how do we grasp at straws
that are already littered across the kitchen floor
hiding under appliances
just out of reach?
'what can a man do?'
i had a dream-
a beautiful dream-
a sparkling dream-
and then things shifted-
'the times they are a changin''-
they moved so fast that they ran over that dream.
'what can a man do?'
its happened to them
time and time and again
and now
them has become us-
we have become 'them' to some other 'us'.
ironic,
how these things come to pass.
unfortunately.
where did the dream go?
what was it in the first place?
and can i get it back?
or can i create a new one?
time is in flux-
we are in flux-
stuck.
can i get off, please?
i'd like to build up the courage
to do what i want to do
to do what i have to do
before the time i have to do it in-
the time to step towards the dream-
passes over me as though i were nothing more
than a grain of sand
a speck of dust
a particle of ash
drifting aimlessly on the wind.
