all things concidered, by Anna Lorena Subscribe to rss feed for Anna Lorena

my baby went to school today,
same as always,
but today my baby didn't come home.
it's one of those things-
been happening to other people all around this country-
now its my turn.
somebody drove up in a car with a bomb-
ran into the side of my baby's bus-
killed a lot of children...
killed a lot of adults too.
then again, everybody is somebody's child.
its one of those things you think will only happen
over there-
not over here.
its one of those facts of living here,
in this war torn, bitter, country,
that is utterly true and heartless-
an undeniable fact.
my baby went to school today,
same as always,
but today my baby didn't come home.
i am thinking,
whoever reads this,
you will immediately name one country,
one thats in the news,
one that you all assume this kind of thing happens in,
that i am living in-
but i am guessing you won't name your own.
you won't say i am from france,
england, germany, italy, spain...
the western world,
and God forbid you name the united states-
these things don't happen in 'civilized' places.
you will name iraq,
afghanistan,
someplace in the middle east,
or somewhere in africa-
one of those wild, strange places
always in the news.
sorry, delusioned reader-
but you're wrong.
all things concidered,
i might just be you.
