The Musings of an Untravelled Michigander, by Anna Lorena Subscribe to rss feed for Anna Lorena

I've heard that somewhere out there is another world
with people that are different than me
a place where people have different customs
and where people look different from what I am used to
I heard that somewhere they speak other languages
languages that I would not understand
languages that they teach us in school
but never quite seem real
I hear that there are cities out there that are bigger that
Detroit
but I've never seen any
I've heard that there are mountains in Tennessee
and also in Colorado and in Kentucky
but since I've never seen them
I cant honestly tell you that they're there
for all I've seen
they could just have been pictures taken in some movie set
in California
things that are only a figment of someone's imagination
things that aren't really there
because for al I've seen
all the world looks pretty much the same
corn fields and other crops surround us
trees are in the distance
and houses dot the farmscape
every ten or so miles there is a town
and sometimes a few of them run together
once I saw mountains
but that may be the only place they exist in
for all I've seen
once I saw Florida
but while I was there it rained
just like here
and I never saw an non-domesticated alligator
so for all I've seen
they've got the same kind of animals there
as we have here in Michigan
it was summer there too
and it was quite hot
just like here
some say that there is a big swamp down there
but I never saw one
so maybe there really is
or maybe there really isn't
for al I've seen
the whole world is like here
