And Then There's Ronaldo

He came into the yard in the spring
He was a skinny little thing
Dark grey with white was he
With eyes full of mystery

He was afraid of people and me
I fed him and let him be
He was a hungry little cat
And his fur was one big mat

He wouldn't let me near
He was so full of fear
I fed him all summer long
He acted like he did belong

Finally one day I pet his head
And then again as he was fed
Eventually I gained his trust
And then it was the end of August

One time he came late.He was hurt
One side of him was full of spit and dirt
He wanted in to rest and heal
He didn't care if he got a meal

One whole day and into the night
He slept. Oh, he was a sight
He wouldn't drink, he wouldn't eat
He could hardly stand upon his feet

Morning came and he asked to go out
He had business to be about
I opened the door and said goodbye
I thought he left to go and die

I grieved so hard for that little cat
I loved him and that was that
Four days later he showed up to eat
And he walked slow upon his feet

He was thinner and hungry and he got fed
And into my house he was led
He was happy with Baraka and me to stay
I am proud to say he's no longer a stray

His fur now shines and he's gaining weight
And I must say he's looking great
We three are finally a family
Ronaldo, Bakaka and me
