Summers Past , by Darren Oxton Subscribe to rss feed for Darren Oxton

And so colours turn from their greens
Through to browns,
As time passes faster than
Ageing eyes can blink,
Memories impressed,
More than twenty autumns ago,
Never fade from ever nostalgic,
Much happier frowns,
The innocence is lost,
Too much time used to think,
Whilst we surge through the years,
Losing youth as we grow,

Another summer gone,
Meaningless ‘new’ tat,
Old days that have past,
Bare more happiness for me,
Fondly smiling,
Hearing the river as we played,
But now preparing for winter,
Wearing the years like a hat,
The days of tomorrow,
So much harder to see,
A future uncertain,
Am I right to feel afraid?

Lazy old summers,
A fine wine ripe to drink,
In mind always stay,
With this foolish old clown
