The Blockade, by Robin Goodwin Subscribe to rss feed for Robin Goodwin

Sitting down to breakfast the radio on,
Listening to the regular world news.
Amidst all the chatter the newsreader states,
Shipping and the Falklands is making headline news.

The chatting soon stops it's all quite at the table,
We cannot believe just what we are hearing.
The Argies don't like it we're drilling for oil,
So their blockading our waters to stop all our shipping.

We have always been used to the Argentine aggression,
Because we remain British, democratic and free.
To stop all our shipping is an all out attack,
On the international laws of the sea.

They've even put pressure on their Latin American
neighbours,
Not to trade with us or allow entry to our ships.
They are nothing more than dictators and bullies,
We can never trust them with their devious tricks.

We Islanders are peaceful but they wont leave us alone,
Why does the rest of the world sit by and do nothing.
Democracy rules or so we are told,
Go away Argentina this land we're not giving.

Their actions are childish and so immature.
A laughing stock to the world of democracy
They cant even manage their own Countries affairs,
Killing the indigenous people of their own society.

One day they'll wake up and will then realise,
That the world no longer supports them.
By then it's to late to re-kindle the fire,
With the Islanders who no longer respect them.
