The Sea, by Jezebel Subscribe to rss feed for Jezebel

Everytime the sea
greets me with its
cold embrace, parts
of me sigh.

Parts of me are glad.
The sea is not easy,
no. But here, you can
drown.

Here, there is no
one to pull you out.
No one to save you
from the sharks.

I can see her miles
away, treading water
the same way I am.
Can hear her cries.

Soon she will know,
if she doesn't already,
that help is rare.
So very rare.

The sea does spit you
out on the occasion.
Let's you get warm
and smile some.

And just when you think
you've finally won,
the tide washes in and
you're drowning again.

This sea is a part of
me now. I've died and
lived inside it. Bled
and healed inside it.

It's cold embrace is
what I long for when things
get too good. When hope
rises up once more.

The sea is easy,
the sea is death.
But the sea is also cold,
and the sea is what I love.
