Another Small Step, by Leslie Thomson Subscribe to rss feed for Leslie Thomson

As he stepped off the ladder,
He declared it “One small step for man;
One giant leap for mankind.”
And we watching all were spellbound,
As goals were reassigned.

Three years later,
Another giant leap found him
In his Scottish ancestral home.
As the first man on the moon,
Travelled to humble Langholm.

Another small step;
First Freeman of the Burgh;
Neil Armstrong, humble man of great renown,
Told all of those assembled,
“I consider this now, my home town.”

For a land so very tiny,
We have given so much to the world.
More things than tongue can tell.
But, for Scotland, the world was not enough;
We had to have the Moon as well.

(Based upon the fact that Neil Armstrong's ancestors came
from Langholm, Scotland, and that during a visit to the town
in 1972, he was made Freeman of the Burgh.)
