On Letters that I Never Wrote, by Leslie Thomson Subscribe to rss feed for Leslie Thomson

On letters that I never wrote,
And the things I never said.
The missed chances of a lifetime,
Go running through my head.

Of all the girls I never loved,
And the ones I could have loved better;
With whom I never shared a gentle word,
And never sent a loving letter.

On tenderness that I could have shared,
Had I not the moment missed;
To those my heart I could have bared,
And the girls I could have kissed.

Life is too short to regret, they say,
Yet I cannot help regretting.
Life’s lessons have a funny way
Of stopping me from forgetting.

Perhaps life is trying to teach me,
To always hold and cherish dear
Those who are trying to reach me,
And say the words they need to hear.
