Let Me Sing You A Poem, by Khristy Nickerson Subscribe to rss feed for Khristy Nickerson

I thought I felt
someone staring,
so I frantically
followed foot steps
In the snow,
leading to the
bathroom window,
accompanied by a chair
and I felt your presence
there

I thought maybe
a few weeks of cartoons
and a pair of
brand new shoes
could make air
go the opposite way,
I nodded and said
"i promise I won't say",
but I never said I wouldn't sing,
tones can technically
make your "one"
into two disparate things

Sneak into my room
to speech and tell me
I'm too young to be
reading sentimental
fantasies,
but old enough to know
love is another word for bias,
that Barbie couldn't possibly
marry Ken
because no chemistry
in this world
ever really exists

I thought maybe
a few weeks of cartoons
and a pair of
brand new shoes
could make air
go the opposite way,
I nodded and said
"i promise I won't say",
but I never said I wouldn't sing,
tones can technically
make your "one"
into two disparate things

In the barn
there were shadows
of rusted up nothingness,
aside antique coca cola
bottles collected
back in nineteen forty-eight
and diagonal were trays,
freezing and molding my blood,
and I stared, praying
that i was inhaling
some kind of
poison in the air,
Not realizing I had already
taken my last breath,
but by then it was too late

I thought maybe
a few weeks of cartoons
and a pair of
brand new shoes
could make air
go the opposite way,
I nodded and said
"i promise I won't say",
but I never said I wouldn't sing,
tones can technically
make your "one"
into two disparate things

I thought maybe
a few weeks of cartoons
and a pair of
brand new shoes
could make air
go the opposite way,
I nodded and said
"i promise I won't say",
but I never said I wouldn't sing,
tones can technically
make your "one"
into two disparate things

And you said
I looked crazy because
I didn't smile all too often,
you should've seen
all the teeth
when i heard
you had been
relocated underground,
in a coffin
