Something About A Substance, by ezimmerman Subscribe to rss feed for ezimmerman

One day I was walking down to the store, on my way to smoke

When I saw an old man with a long beard and a cloak
His face was beaten, his body frail, and his hair was
mangled
And I thought, man what kind of mess you up and tangled?
Did you ever think you’d be sittin’ on a bench with your
hand stuck out?
‘Cause that cannot be what your life has been all about
I bet you once had a house and a girl and ambition
But it seems you chose a substance that forced your
condition

So shoot it up, yes drink it down
I can turn your frown upside down
Oh chop it up, yea give it a whiff
Just take a hit son, you won’t feel stiff
Pop that pill girl and chase it on down
It’s the only source of fun in this town
C’mon man, you know it ain’t a crime
‘Cause I promise I’ll make it worth your time

I walked back to my place and puffed on that cigarette
When I stumbled upon a woman who appeared to be a silhouette

She had tattoos all over her arms and a ring in her tongue
And I said, now lady what kind of sick nasty things you
done?
You know you got four teeth missin’ on the left side of
your cheek?
You can’t be more than 24, but you look like a rotting
antique
You had your foot on the gas but you never started the
ignition
I guess you chose a substance that forced your condition

So shoot it up, yes drink it down
I can turn your frown upside down
Oh chop it up, yea give it a whiff
Just take a hit son, you won’t feel stiff
Pop that pill girl and chase it on down
It’s the only source of fun in this town
C’mon man, you know it ain’t a crime
‘Cause I promise I’ll make it worth your time

Well I smoked that cig to the filter and tossed it away
When a man standin’ on the corner came up to me with
somethin’ to say
He says looky here boy, I got somethin’ that’ll get your
veins pumpin’
It’ll make you feel so good that ya can’t feel nothin’

All I need is some that green paper in that pocket of yours

And I’ll seal it up and hand over this beautiful little
cure
Then I thought, I don’t need nobody’s mother-loving
permission
I’ll pay the money and take this substance to improve my
condition

Well I opened my door and sat down on my bed
And then I proceeded to force my mind out of my head
I forgot about my fears, my tears and my troubles
And I said, maybe this stuff can help me through my
struggles
Of course I got enough dough to throw to keep this feeling
And just maybe if I do it enough times I’ll just keep on
healing
I don’t need no fancy cars, library books or money for
tuition
All I need is this little substance here to cure my
condition

Ah if I only I could go back to that day and change my
decision
I’d jack that man from the corner and have him put in
prison
But I took that first hit with a big old laugh and a grin
Because it seemed to me that I had discovered the perfect
sin
Now I’m ridin’ on a night where I think I’ve had a
little too much
But it don’t matter ‘cause I’ve got the mystical Midas
touch!
Now I know I never seen a dead man and I ain’t no
physician
But I am quite certain that substance forced my ultimate
