JACK, by Joseph W Cartlidge Subscribe to rss feed for Joseph W Cartlidge

I have three children
And I love them all
But I'm gonna tell the story
Of the one who's very small

His name is Jackson William
But we all call him Jack
He just turned five and man alive
He won't cut you any slack

We once thought we would lose him
Back when he was three
My baby had consumption
Yeah, we're talking bout TB

The sweetest little man
You'd ever hope to see
Just thirty pounds he weighed
But brave as one could be

Through surgery and treatment
After eight months he was well
He has not grown too much since then
Of this this fact I won't dwell

It's true we live apart now
And it's really hard for me
It's like I made a pact
With someone I can't see

It only took a month
Once that he was well
For my family to leave me
Alone inside my shell

Now I can reflect
And know I'll gladly give
My eternal happiness
So long as Jack can live
