Wings, by Lunaria Subscribe to rss feed for Lunaria

Wings
If I had my wings I would fly
Way up high in the sky
There's a place where my wings used to be
When I came here they took them from me

They said people on earth do not fly
I am people? I asked them why
You are not air borne anymore
Must keep your feet on the floor

Up past the clouds is my home
A beautiful place under a dome
Someday I'll go there. I really believe.
When I get there I shall never leave

The place where my wings used to be
Itches sometimes so fiercely
Like they are pushing their way through my skin
Growing back to where they have been

I watch the birds twitter and fly
Way up high in the sky
They fly high and sit in the trees
While I am down here on my knees

Why did you send me here to this place?
Were you trying my memory to erase?
What have I done to make you so mad?
You are the only parent I've ever had

Creator speaks! Stop fussin' and fumin'
For now you are human
You needed this test
So give it your best

Soon you'll come back to me
Now let all your whining flee
From your lips. Be happy for now
You will find out how

I stilled myself and looked above
To where he was that I so love
I will stay though I don't belong
On earth and listen to the bird's song.
