she watches from her window
the cars don't seem real
and the drivers, they drive without a reason
or a good handle on the wheel

lighting a cigarette
an old woman rocks in her chair
she's much too young to die
though she doesn't even care

way down past the train tracks
it's a tuesday nite
boys and girls are gathered
to drink and smoke and fight

their parents should be home
making sure they're safe and sound
but instead they're at the bar
ordering another round

millions upon millions
sit alone in dark rooms
fighting for the strength
to battle through their gloom

mister leaves the misses
for the third time this week
but tonight he won't come back
home always looks so bleak

she sees this through her window
until she comes to realize
that the duration of her viewing
has been seen from the outside

never was there a window
to keep her safely closed in
just a creation in her mind
made for warmth and protection from sin
