That Boat, by Don't build lies on ice cubes. Subscribe to rss feed for Don't build lies on ice cubes.

This could be ours he said to me
As I lay next to him ‘neath the stars
To the future we both could see
As we lay in that boat of ours

Well that was all a year ago
That stolen lovers’ momentous night
There wasn’t a way that I could know
For the future, it blinded my sight

For that boat was where it all went wrong
That perfect love I knew
With the change of wind the love was gone
And what he said, it was far from true

The gale blew cold, the rain did fall
Whilst the sea crashed against the sand
But the lovers, we didn’t care at all
For we had taken each other’s hand

Building a life from inside that boat
Placing dreams upon the deck
If we set sail we would surely float
Ignoring that the boat was a wreck

I pushed that boat full of dreams
Towards a sea so deep and tranquil
Those hopes were ripping from the seams
As I realised the sea was far from still

It threw me and him from the boat we’d built
Threw me to a place where I later drowned
And he was wrapped up in his tormented guilt
Yet, it was a long time before I was found

And that boat of ours still lies on the shore
I pass that wreckage on the beach
It reminds me of how for us there was more
But it was just beyond our reach

In a boat full of holes you can not set sail
But love will make you think that you can
The rain was falling, there was a violent gale
In a boat, there was woman and man

And this could be ours he said to me
As I lay next to him ‘neath the stars
To the future we both thought we could see
As we lay in that boat of ours
