Anna's Call, by Abby Fischer Subscribe to rss feed for Abby Fischer

*This is a song I wrote about my best friend, Anna Lee
Janowitz, who was killed on August 16, 2002 in a car
accident.*

In dreams her face is all I see
I’m haunted by her memory
I know you came to set her free
But why take her away from me?

I see her smile, I hear her laugh
But I can’t understand
How can this life not be a part
Of God’s Almighty plan?

I want to take your hand and take her stand
Oh God, don’t let me fall
I want to wake right now from where I sleep
	To fight for Anna’s call

Something in me cannot rest until I know the truth
I know there’s something I don’t know
But still I have no proof
I feel it in my heart
There’s more that happened on that day
Why, O God, can’t you just say
Why you could not let her stay?

My heart may never cease to ache
My tears may never dry
My sorrow might not go away
And I might always cry
But even though she’s found her home
And is where she belongs
There must still be something in her heart
That aches and groans and longs

I want to take your hand and take her stand
Oh God, don’t let me fall
I want to wake right now from where I sleep
	To fight for Anna’s call

Her life she lost, but there’s a call
to fill the void she made
She sees that she was taken home
        before her part was played
I feel her mantle falling down
        upon my shoulders now
I know that I must live for her
but God, I don’t know how

Let me dream the dreams you gave to her
And show me how to let her live through me
She had a call, a purpose, and a vision
This death could not have been her destiny

I want to take your hand and take her stand
Oh God, don’t let me fall
I want to wake right now from where I sleep
	To fight for Anna’s call
