Father's Broken Heart, by Abby Fischer Subscribe to rss feed for Abby Fischer

I made your eyes to shine when you
Would light up with a smile
I knew the way your voice would sound
In just a little while

I made your heartbeat like my own
And shaped your hands and eyes and ears
Knowing every step you’d take
I’d hear you laugh and see your tears

I formed your heart in my own hands
And breathed my very breath in you
I dreamed the life that you would live
And everything that you would do

But then they came when death decreed
And took the knife that made you bleed
I watched as they ripped you apart
And at the same time, broke my heart

Don’t cry baby, let me hold you
I just wish I could have told you
That you could live and grow and breathe
I wish I could let you believe

Your destiny was never taken
My dreams for you were never shaken
I knew where you’d go, just how you’d grow
And I knew everything you’d know

Now my heart breaks and heaven cries
While death consumes and evil lies
Why can’t my bride just recognize
The truth and save my babies’ lives?

Again... well done. You have a gift with words and the way they reach my heart.
