It’s hard at the end of the day
When I wonder how my life turned out this way
My youth was exuberant, joyful, and bliss
What road to happiness did I happen to miss?

I must’ve missed the turn-off, cuz I’m at a dead end
I’ve endured so much pain, my heart just won’t mend
I missed the road for happy, now I’m stuck on despair
Alone with no one to turn to, no one to care

So I’m going down this road, all alone
Never able to go back to the happiness I’ve known
Stuck on this one-way, the path is grim
I wonder if I’ll ever find my way back again
My road winds through pain, strife, sadness, and grief
I see glimpses of happiness, but it’s always too brief

Just a moment longer, I beg and I plead
The joy in my life, I desperately need
I embrace it fervently, and soon it is gone
Leaving slivers of its warmth to linger on
So I’ll stay on this road, no exits up ahead
until I find one, this pain I will dread

But there’s no way around, just keep going straight
I believe a road to happiness must be in my fate
So I keep on going, just a little bit longer
And through each turn I get a little bit stronger.
