The New Year 2006
I awakened in my hospital bed
Rubbed my eyes, shook my head
It was one AM
I missed the new year coming in
I missed the bells and all the din
What will 2006 bring to us
A car perhaps, and not the bus
I need to resolve this and that
Need to put on my thinking hat
I haven't done it yet, you see
I was on the table sound asleep as can be
I doubt we'll have a peaceful world
For the banner of war has been unfurled
But come what may I will be here
I salute you all with a glass of beer.
