I am a Jamerican, by Sigourney Subscribe to rss feed for Sigourney

What is a Jamerican to be exact?
That would be me as a matter of fact.
Born and Raised on the border of DC,
It created who I was meant to be.
Raised by my grandmother of Caucasian, African, and Indian
descent
I was taught to read, pray and repent.
Uprooted from Jamaica was my family tree
Forever known as foreigners was our destiny.
What is a Jamerican to be exact?
That would be me as a matter of fact.
With knowledge of Caribbean cooking and cleaning skills
Between my mother and grandmother, those were their only
thrills.
How they could stand it just gives me chills
Being a Jamerican and having a cultured history gives me
great pride
I?ve learn to set judgment, hatred, and racism aside
What I learn inside my family (nelly)
Proves to show a better future for me.
Generation after Generation filled with rhythm and soul that
flows through the veins
Every beat of music allows us to be free of locks, chains,
burden and pains.
Combined with the American and Jamaican nation
Made everyone like me ready for adaptation
So, what is a Jamerican to be exact?
That would be me as a matter of fact.
