Star: A Sestina

By The Irish Child

They look upon the setting sun with gazing eyes, looking at their God whose body is that of a star ‘Tis the end of the day and your eyes are taken captive by the colors of the sky Winged creatures soar about the sky as they follow the retreating sun as the wind takes them captive when they glide beside their God on the melting summer day they follow the fading star The night shows endless stars hanging in the sky waiting for day to bring the rising sun To brig back birds and the God that will again take you captive Those who were taken captive return with the summer worn star The image left of God ridding the tear scarred sky as it backs away from the sun to mark a new day The leaves fall at the break of day swirled by the wind, they are captive they dance before the sun reaching for the star flying into the sky to touch their God Nature is the God we gaze upon each day reaching up to the sky Our hearts taken captive by the burning, glowing star that takes its place as the star The sun is no God But is the star of the day It is captive in the melting sky
