By Kalie

Traveling alone a dark road Up the hill Afraid of what might be Behind the black fences Walking carefully, swiftly. She sneaks down the hill Near the snaking river The flashlights ray Catch her silhouette As she runs zigzagged Across the uneven earth The dead leaves break With the weight of her captors The dogs stop barking At the river’s bank She watches them Barely breathing Barely moving; Praying they wont see Her breath in the cold. She finally acknowledges The cold night air Suddenly feeling the Knives of the water Bare into her skin The pain is excruciating And as she relaxes, She can feel the bruises The scratches; Feel the blood Cascading down her back. They come across the river Forcing her to move Away from their sights She wants to scream In agony But knows that screams Mean death. Literally biting her tongue She sneaks through They gray trees Trying to find a hiding place Trying not to die. She feels weak Hungry She hears it Before she feels it Blood escapes her heart As she sinks toward the ground The pain intensifies And dies with her.
