Pain's A Shadow, by bedazzled
|
I know you’ll close your eyes,
thinking the blankness will numb the pain.
When are you going to learn
that pain’s a shadow?
I’ll blink away the grey tears,
stumbling to somewhere new.
When am I going to learn
to trust myself?
Flowers shrink and cower
beneath the stare of dusty skies,
once I waited
here for you.
Ivy wraps around my feet,
choices poison every step,
I cannot help but remember,
you once waited
here for me.
I know you’ll take your chances,
so sure clean air will make you better.
When are you going to learn
that promises aren’t for breaking?
I’ll learn to dance again,
forgetting to remember.
When am I going to learn
forever has an expiry date?
Pillars start to crumble,
hearts are hiding under stairs,
once they used to be so sure
that you loved me.
I search for shelter amongst bullets,
knowing I might freeze without,
bleeding, I was once so sure
that I loved you.
