My Only Grandma, by Simply-Me-20104

When I was growing up
I knew who you were
But what you looked like
I was so unsure
For years I dreamed
About your face, your hair
Mom said you were short
So I would start there
I'd picture your curls
And that pretty red dress
In that only picture we have
Of you on the desk
We used to write letters
Each and every week
But on the phone
We'd rarely speak
I'd recieve cards
I'd send you pictures back
But there was something more
That we lacked
I had never seen your face
Had never seen your hair
On those holidays
You were never there
You have lived
So far away
And you still do
To this very day
You left before
I was even born
So now there's a missing piece
That has been torn
My puzzled heart
Is not complete
So now when I write
It's an empty sheet
Because I really don't know
Just what to say
To someone who has stayed
So far away
Even though I love you
With all of my heart
I hate that you chose
To stay so far apart
And even now
After that close call
A few months ago
When you took that fall
We want you back
But you won't come
You give us excuses
Like the hot sun
My only Grandma,
Who I've only met twice
I still remember
Your advice
But if there was one wish
That I don't lack
Would be the one
To have you back!!

Oh I love this beautiful poem! I would think this poem would bring your grand mother to you soon! Have you ever let her read it? I'm a grand mother too, I know I would be there any way possible, if my grandaughter had written this for me.hmmm, I'd walk to her! This is very good and so touching! loved it! :)glo |
