Shoebox (It's Nearly Christmas), by Beth aka Anonymous
|
Four walls of carboard
Hard and rigid.
Many layers
Stuck together.
Inside is soft tissue
Gentle and kind.
Many layers
All together.
Unwrap everything
Delicate glass balls
Tiny ornaments
Wisps of silver and gold
Old and new
Together.
Bubblewrapped
Cushioned.
Pop! it goes
Another surprise
Something I made
Ten years ago.
Another box
Bigger this time.
Out of it,
comes something green
The same
Every year.
It takes us
A whole hour
To put everything up
All together.
We finish and look back
And you can tell
It's nearly Christmas.
