PHANTOM RING, by Devika
|
I can sometimes feel its presence on my finger
And how that feeling in my heart seems to linger
I vividly remember the day i first felt it against my skin
How it shone and it spoke to me even amidst the din!!
Every time i looked at it i saw a face
A face now...so hard to remember..so hard to trace...
But what i remember more is what the ring signified....
A promise that should've lasted a lifetime..a promise that
died
How suddenly i was robbed of its presence
Just when it had become a part of my essence
I remember kissing it when i parted ways with it
As if to send a message to its new recipient
And now all i have left of it is a vague remembrance of it
on my finger,
I rub the very spot it used to occupy as if to make the
feeling disappear....
But as a nerve gets cut during an amputation, leaving behind
a "phantom limb"
I wish this amputation of my heart wouldnt have left behind
a feeling of "Phantom ring"

i'm not a doctor but i think I still get it. The nerve that was cut still tries to send electric impulses to the limb that is no longer there right? Well I think it's a great metaphor and I really like this poem. |
