Dusty Little Shoes/ by Marsha L. VonderBrink, by marsha Subscribe to rss feed for marsha

Dusty little shoes shoved carelessly under the bed,
dribbled with dried mud, splattered on the spread.
Motes of dust mixed sunshine on his windows sink,
gently,as the timid, tiny warrior sneaks up on sleep.

Dragged in with him, upon his ragged tennis shoes,
shreds of grass and dirt, the badges of his courage.
The war upon the lawn, with the yellow bumble bee,
he out ran him, skidding, upon scabby, skinny knees.

The scary dive bomber, out at the pond,
who turned out to be, a, rather dirty swan.
His honor he was bound to defend,
even if he lost, more, than a little skin.

Muddy creek banks are just made for little boys,
full of bugs and toads, enemies they must destroy.
Dragging wearily, back, to the house at night,
Satisfied they have put up, the, no surrender fight!
