Beneath the Sunglasses, by Cutie In A Death Cab
|
Just can't let out this
S C R E A M.
Stuck like a stale song
in my throat
and I'm choking on lyrics I can't sing.
So read it in my eyes.
But not like schoolwork. Not like homework.
Not like the spine-cracked novel
covered in dust
with pages taped together
in a pathetic attempt to last
just one more year in the classroom.
Not like your bible
which you read to
pacify any tempestuous guilt, and
which you read not because
of the contents, but because it's
the right thing to do.
Read it in my eyes
like the book you read from
cover to cover in a single afternoon,
soaking up each page under
a shade tree in the park.
Like the story you read over
and over again
simply for the joy it brings you.
Read it in my eyes
and I think
I could cough out this song
into a melody
so sweet that lollipops would
grow from your ears.
