Things We Say, by Cutie In A Death Cab
|
Does it matter anymore
the promises we swore?
It's funny how this changed from white to black,
so quickly, now it's done.
I guess we've had our fun.
In the closet sit my memories in a stack.
If it meant anything
why didn't it cling?
Why did it so loosely fall apart?
Nothing is for sure.
No words we say are pure.
We should have realized this from the start.
Words are nothing more
than handles on a door.
They open and then slam back in your face.
The things we sometimes say
are meant but in a way
that hours or just minutes can erase.
We spit these out like bullets,
piercing hearts more than we know it.
Does anybody think before they speak?
We talked about the way
that things would always stay.
Hey look, now everything has turned so bleak.
Why did we say we cared?
If we did, would we have dared
let this break and crumble into dust?
I wish that it weren't so
but we're human and I know
that I am always way too quick to trust.
