Halloween (it's a short story not a poem), by ♥ Leah ☺ Subscribe to rss feed for ♥ Leah ☺

It was Halloween as people liked to call it. All the homes
lit up with pumpkins, their evil glares watching people go
by. Their horrifying grins carved into their orange faces.
The girl shifted her curtain slightly and set eyes upon
little kids with their parents trick or treating. A tug of
disgust shredded through her, some people not even bothered
to open their doors. It was only herself and her elder
sister who had been left inside the house, her parents had
taken her younger brother and sister out to a Halloween
party, so they said. Her music blurred away in the
background as she moved away from the window.
One of her nine cats padded through the door way and
cried softly before jumping up on her bed and rubbing the
girls hand with its head she looked down at the black and
white cat, Maggie. She smiled softly and rubbed the cats
head before sitting down next to her. The little cat made
itself comfy on the girls lap and purred softly in content.
Curled up on her computer chair was Kookie. She had demanded
the girl to go away whilst she slept and would only move if
her supper was to be dished out. The girl lifted the cat
from her lap and placed her next to the small kitten huddled
up in a small ball on the chair, leaving the room for the
cats to run wild in.
Suddenly, she heard her elder sister’s footsteps
thudding up the stairs, it was like the whole house was
shaking. A little out of breath, and brushing the spit from
her face, the girl grinned a little. “I’m going out so I
need your keys.” Speaking rather simply but in a demanding
tone with her hand lifted out like a beggar wanting money
for his fix.
The keys flew across the room and slammed into the door
frame leaving a slight mark. Quickly the girl bent down and
picked them up, then swiftly slamming the door shut behind
her and darting off down stairs. Opening the kitchen door
she checked up on her other cats, Socks and Timon had to be
kept in the kitchen away from Phlix as they kept mounting
her.
She petted each cat on the head before pulling the door
shut. Walking into the living room she picked up the
television remote and muted the television, petting Stripe
on the head she pulled her blue hoodie on and left the
house.
Lifting up her hood over her head she walked down the
street with her hands in her pocket and swiftly moved around
the corner and up towards the pub. She set eyes upon her
parents and her younger siblings sat bored on a bench
outside obviously they had been tricked and their hopes of
having a candy filled night ruined.
She bit her bottom lip before plucking up the valour to
walk over; with an unemotional expression she looked at her
sister then her brother before looking at her father half
drunk and mother not too far behind. She sniffed a little
“Are those two okay coming with me, so they do actually
get some sweets?” in a rather pissed off tone she sat down
with her arms flooded waiting for her parents either to tell
her to get lost, or go slit her wrists, or both.
Once again she looked at her younger brother and sister,
then at her parents again. “So are they okay coming with
me?” Speaking in a slow robotic tone she stood up and
kicked her dad’s leg in order to get attention, knowing
she would be belted for it when she got home. Her mum nodded
a little before giggling and slurring the words “fuck
off”, then sticking her face in her glass of wine.
”Come on then let’s go” With a sigh she grabbed hold
of her younger brothers shoulder and dragged him up then
doing the same with her younger sister. Flicking her hood
back over her head she kept a good sight on her siblings as
they banged on peoples doors and got their delightful
bedtime snacks. Only the odd house was filled up with
decorations and as for the people who never answered the
doors, well they HAD been egged and covered in bog roll.
Avoiding all the massive crowds of sweet hoarders and
trouble makers the girl looked back at her tiered brother
and bored sister. “You wanna call it a night?” Stopping
and turning to face them, glancing at the crowd across the
road who kept staring. Knowing she shouldn’t say or do
anything to provoke them to attack she walked over and took
hold of the goody bags from her siblings, and stashed them
into her pockets. Once again grabbing hold of her siblings
by their shoulders she began to push them into a quicker
pace trying to avoid looking back incase the group decided
to follow or happened to be following.
She glanced just for a second before a body was forced
upon her like a bunch of starving wolves they pounced on
her, beating her. Struggling for air she gasped but the
overflow of blood caused her to choke. The faded screams of
her sister and brother shouting for help, her battered eyes
peeled open, it felt like someone had placed a thin layer of
tape making it hard to open, her vision blurred. She lifted
herself to the ground “Get home now!”
Screaming weakly at her siblings she held her stomach the
blood leaking from her nose and mouth like a leaking tap.
The one with the cap turned back to see the girl standing
weakly, taking up the opportunity to finish her off.
Charging at her like a bull seeing red he pulled out the
knife and rammed it right into her kidney.
Like time had been drawn still her little sister turned
back and screamed; as the feel of warm blood washed through
the elder girls body and gushed from between her lips, as
she fell to the ground. The boy pulled out the knife,
running off into the distance with his prizes. The pool of
blood and the screams drew no attention, the society too
afraid to get involved anymore.
