Carpe Diem

By Melanie •
Shine on me sun, for I feel dark;
Lend me this chance to be bright & contribute my mark.
Raise me up beside a star, from this eternal low;
So I can accomplish success and happiness before my time to go.
Allow me red, yellow, & orange in place of solely the blue my heart sees;
Its gentle beating has woken me to find that life is mine to seize.
Let it pass without optimism & our dreams only continue to tease;
Wake me up from this numbing coma; release me from this disease.
Shivering in terror, I swallow my fear;
A surge of courage fills my bloodstream, followed by tears.
Horrid screams in my head had once made me want an early end;
Now destiny has taken effect & chosen my soul to mend.
So shine on me sun, on this day of great gain;
Hurt and sorrow overpowered by the freedom to life, as opposed to more pain.
