A wall, by KayDe$

The bricks connect
And build on one another
So high and cemented together
The structure you see
Is telling you
You can't come in
You have not earned that right
It blocks you
From all I hold dear
To keep you from coming near
It pushes you back further
As to say, go away
Have built as a defense
From the cruelty and pain
Preventing it once again
Can't trust nor rely
Been stabbed too many times
It allows nothing to come in
But also anything from coming out
And so I still feel the same
And maybe worst by now
Not knowing how or when or
To who to let go
Though the bricks
I need to find a space
For just a second
To release the pain and shame
Give myself permission
To allow it to come down
Just a little
So now you know
What keeps you at bay
It's something I have built
A boundary of sorts
Called
A wall
