The Rightful Owners Of The Land

By Robin Goodwin •
Before they were settled these Islands unknown,
They first had to be discovered and claimed.
The earliest recordings span four hundred years,
When these Islands were discovered, but not then named.
A British sea voyager called Captain John Davis,
Had discovered them in the year fifteen ninety two.
A succession of people has since laid their claims,
They all thought they were right , but nobody knew.
For the next two hundred years , whalers and sealer alike.
Frequently spent many months on these shores.
But nobody laid claim in all of that time,
Until the French and the British landed people and stores.
The French sold their claim to the Country of Spain,
Who then passed on these rights to their South American friend.
The gift has been disputed by the British who claimed,
These Islands were hers and they would defend to the end.
Britain had settled these Islands for overt two hundred years,
Before Argentina had even been invented,
But as soon as the Spanish had created this state,
The Argentines have long since been interested.
But the rightful owners of this land we surely all know,
Are the pioneers who settled them and made it their home.
They have lived here since then, developing this land,
Now generations on, why don’t you all leave them alone.
To the people who live here , it’/s clear in our minds,
That these Islands are definitely our home.
This place really does belong to us now,
As over two hundred years have clearly shown.
So the Argentina and all of her claims,
Take a long hard look at where you began,
The fact that you are in existence at all,
Is because you were created by the Country of Spain.
We need to ask why you still make this claim,
Do you really think this is some kind of spoil,
Or is for something else that we have,
Like the abundance of fish and possibly oil.
It’s a fact when you came here in the year eighty two,
You said then this place was to cold.
So why keep on whingeing the way that you do,
The fact is your ignorant, and you just won’t be told.
