A Shattered Shelf, by Simply-Me-20104
|
No one will understand
You don't even know yourself
So you smile and you nod
Keep hiding worries on the shelf
You say you can't be brought down
You tell yourself it's true
But there's a doubt in your mind
A darkness starting to brew
The mind, body, and soul
Seem to grow thoughts of their own
Time builds disagreements
Now the battle has grown
Stack by stack, you try and
File the thoughts away
They pile, unattended
And seem to start to sway
Hidden so well, so deep
No one can even see
The inevitable mess
That you're beginning to be
So when the shelf gives way
And the troubles start to fall
Your tears might not make
Any sense to them at all
You're crashing to the floor
And the pieces start to fly
So confused, you can't even
Look yourself in the eye
The war with yourself, lost
Facing the aftermath alone
A broken shelf, a broken you
The defeat you've always known.
