With A Vengeance

By Roderick Veach •
karma comes back with a vengeance
the oil spill laughs in the bay
everything's in spin, regret, regret
but this chance might not out-live the day
this chance might not out-live the day
and we find we're so free, we can never do the right thing
revised version of the truth for sale at the news stand
there's no jobs we head east, there's no hope so we flee
Brand new nation rising up from the ocean dregs
hope, hope, from the depths
hope, hope, when there's nothing left
congress bails out the companies who bought them out long ago
while tyrants dine at white tables and farmers die in the snow
millions work at their desk jobs while millions more starve at home
you can't have a brighter future unless they have more control
but karma comes back with a vengeance
and burns down the hospital
lets build a new mall, add some suburbs to the sprawl
give them something new and they forget
hope, hope, with a vengeance
hope, hope, is not for sale today
hope, hope, carries a death sentence
hope, hope, will someday fade, away
