I Won’t Fight Again

By Terry Stewart

I was there when the war was new I fought and killed as I was trained to do I even bled a time or two But I won’t fight again I saw so many of us die I swear I heard their mommas cry And some of them they were friends of mine No I won’t fight again God bless the ones who fought and died And God help the family’s that still cry Let’s never forget the blessed few That made it back home to me and you War is just a game they play Where no one wins in the end they say But this I swear till my dyeing day I won’t fight again I did my part or so I’m told I stood and fought till my blood ran cold But now it’s time that I grow old No I won’t fight again God bless the ones who fought and died And God help the family’s that still cry Let’s never forget the blessed few That made it back home to me and you War will come and war will go Men will die as it takes its toll That’s the cost for peace I know But I won’t fight again I’ve seen what war can really do To even those that make it through I’ve been there a time or two No I won’t fight again God bless them one one and all For their the ones that make our country strong If not for them where would we be If not for them would we be free If not for them where would we be If not for them would we be free Copyright © 2014
