The Vine Covered Cottage

There's a vine covered cottage over the hill

If you don't find it first I sure will

It's pretty well hidden in the briar and bush

Watch where you walk or you'll fall on your tush

Look over there at that mound of green

It seems different than the rest of the scene

Getting up closer I see a window, a door

Taking these vines down will be quite a chore

Under the vines I could see very faint

It used to be covered with powder blue paint

Following the pebble strewn path away from the door

I came to large waves crashing the shore

Sitting on a big rock that was welcoming me

Gazing all about me to see what I'd see

I recognized treasure half buried in sand

Hey come quick and give me a hand

Finding beautiful shells from abalone and snail

Shining green bottles that used to hold ale

A locket with pictures that somebody lost

With a man and a woman, lovers star crossed

Here is some blue glass broken in shards

There is a worn out deck of cards

Scattered pearls no longer a string

And a child's imitation glass ring

The sun's going down. There's a chill in the air

We better get over the hill while we dare

Tell no one of this place we have found

Where lots of treasures under sand abound.
