It's Dark

It is black as the ace of spades tonight Not a moon, star or even a porch light I stubbed my toe, fell and skinned my knee Tried to walk and bumped into a tree Excuse me tree, I didn't see you there I usually walk under a street light glare But tonight it is very, very dark Could you point me in the direction of the park? I think I better sleep on a bench tonight And find my way home in the morning light You say the park is up that hill? Just my luck to get a chill And land in the hospital with the croup Then I'd sure be in the soup But if it's noodle with chunks of chicken Then I don't care if I get stricken I found a bench and laid me down And slept till the sun rose o'er the town While I slept I had a dream A sad dream. What does it mean? While the darkness covered the land I reach for you to take your hand Now I know you never did care For when I reached for you, you were not there With this dream I did discover That you had another lover So my dear I give you the boot Here it is, here is my foot The morning sun warmed my heart I didn't care that we're apart For I will find another lover Under the wonderful, black night cover.
