Cottage In The Wood, by Lunaria

Cottage In The Wood
Over the hill and through the wood
You'll come to where a cottage stood
The ground is empty. There's nothing there
The cottage vanished in thin air
How it happened is a mystery
The cottage had such a history
I'll tell you the stories that I've heard
I'm not sure I believe every word
Clean out your ears and listen well
To these stories I'm about to tell
I heard the first one from a farmer boy
To be honest he was very coy
He said there were many a gnome
That made the cottage their home
We know this is not the truth
We'll forgive the lad, he's just a youth
Gnomes live in the depths of Earth
They are not known for their joy and mirth
Taking care of the big old trees
Is their job, they do it with grace and ease
Another story that was told to me
Came from a man from across the sea
He said the cottage does now reside
On the other side of the great divide
That didn't make any sense to me
How can he know from across the sea
So far the stories that I've heard
Are just not true and are absurd
Here is story number three
This is how it was told to me
A great, strong wind took the cottage away
It hasn't been seen to this day
That's just as silly as story number two
I don't believe it. Do you?
Does anyone know what really went down?
I'm asking all residents of this town
Yes, I know, came a voice from far away
I saw what happened. I was here that day
They moved the house a mile down the road
Put it on a big truck. It was quite a load
He continued talking as he led me down a mile
I couldn't keep him quiet. He talked all the while
We finally stopped in front of the cottage door
After he told me the whole tale of yore
There it stood in all it's glory
Carried here by a lorry
A mile down the road it does sit
A contented sound I hear it emit
The mystery of the cottage is over
This cottage is not a rover
It asked to be moved. It asked with a please
It wanted to be close to the blue, blue seas
There you have it. End of story
By the way the cottage's name is Laurie
I'm leaving now. Good day to you
When telling a story make sure it's true.
