The Year Is New, by Lunaria

The Year Is New
Behold a brand new year
Still gleaming white and clear
No marks yet on her perfect face
Just a baby year full of grace
January is it's first baby name
With soft white snow she came
Bells and whistles announced her birth
All celebrated with joy and mirth
Baby February is still quite small
And doesn't do very much at all
Her soft white snow has turned to gray
And she stays up longer every day
Baby March starts out loud
With lots of wind and grayish cloud
But soon is warm and turning green
And now she isn't very clean
Little April is sprouting up
With lots of Tulips and a Butter Cup
Now she loves being clean
There's more showers than you've ever seen
Now we have adolescent May
In the rain she loves to play
All the rain makes the flowers grow
May loves flowers. Don't you know?
Here comes teenage June
Now everything's in bloom
All shades of green and colors galore
And a boy knockin' on her door
Miss July is a beautiful lady
She is both sunny and shady
Sometimes hot and sometimes cool
But mostly pleasant is the rule
Miss August isn't nice at all
Her color's faded, she's very tall
With a temperament that's very hot
She wears her hair in a knot
September comes with Bumble Bees
Harvesting and cool degrees
Colorful leaves upon the trees
And lots of pollen to make you sneeze
Miss October is cold and gray
Let's everything around decay
Leaves pumpkins on the front door stoop
Costumes on children in a group
Miss November is old and white
Blows cold air every night
Let the barn door open wide
Now there's no Turkey there inside
Miss December walks with a cane
Hobbling down memory lane
She'll soon be gone, but we won't mourn
Because another baby year will be born.

Never heard anyone speak of months in baby terms! Let alone in lines of poetick verse !How original of you to do! |
