Nights of Reality, by Kar
|
The soft notes are floating
Hearing voices through the floor
Lyrics playing in my head
A song I've heard many times before
Sleep will not come to me
Endlessly my thoughts speak
Shadows dance upon my wall
Moonlight falls across my cheek
Song after song whispers to me
Between the valleys of my thoughts
I've escaped reality for a moment
And I think... Then again, maybe not
Every smile that reaches my lips
More welcome than the sun
Laughter and carefree moments
Thinking of my only one
Gut-wrenching screams invade
Glass glances before my eyes
Again I cringe beneath the blanket
And hide under it for dear life
Friendly eyes flash before mine
A familiar voice hugs me lovingly
Slowly I remove my shield
Have I reached insanity?
Two lives I have led
One lost in the past
A piece of me longs for it
But do I really want it back?
It may seem a different night
But thoughts are the same
We bickered and we lost
Like it was a wordless game
And the entirety of the boy I love
Never once left my head
For while these flashbacks appear
He watches, nothing said
But he protects me still
Though physically he's far
"You know I'm always here for you
And you know I love you, Kar."
The memories battle relentlessly
Every evening they're all watching me
And now I'd like to welcome you
To my nights of reality

*Author's Note: I think this is one of the poems that
describes my life's turmoil the best, as I've experienced
this nearly every night since I was seven years old.* |
