The roots dig down, deep underground,
They grow and entwine, twisting lost souls,
Stumbling upon the proud, grand trunk,
Falling over stumpy leaves and branches.

The wind whistles through broken twigs,
Trapping forgotten voices as it goes,
The roots, deep and protected from its venom,
The all is still and quiet . . .
