Dear Dad, by AUSTIN, by Thoughtless Encounters
|
I know we're completely different
And we sometimes disagree
But I just want you to notice
The man I'm growing to be
Everything I accomplished
I dedicated to you
I hoped you might smile at me
And say son I'm proud of you
I did everything you said
I want to hold my head high
Dad I want to be just like you
But you don't see the light
You think she's all wrong for me
And she's bringing me down
But you never stopped to think
If it was the other way around
But she doesn't see it that way
She always blames herself
She hates that she's come between us
Dad she hates that she let you down
You don't know anything about her
You're only focusing on the negative
No one knows what we've been through
And our big plans on makin it
You think she doesn't have ambition
But you don't know her hopes and dreams
You don't know that feeling
I get when she's with me
And dad, she's so smart
Like a walking dictionary
You don't know how hard
It is to believe that she chose me
But here's what will get yoiu
It knocked me off my feet
She respects and admires you
Reveres you even, despite everything
I know we made a few mistakes
Probably not our last
Though be both now how nineteen feel
And together we're learning fast
So dad I'm now a man
Someday I'll have my own family
I'm proud of who I am
And the woman that stands by me
See I love you. You're my dad.
And I love her. She's my heart.
If we don't focus on the past
I think we could have a fresh start
I want everyone to know
And I want her to someday see
This man here that I know
Is the man I want to be.
