*Black Girl Lost* (7), by *****Junior Walker*****
|
I see you laughing with boys
When no one told a joke
I see you open the palm of your hand
When you’re offered something to smoke
There goes a black girl-lost
You’re up late at night
Talking to boys on your mums cordless
Thinking fake hair, fake nails, and fake eyes
Make you attractive when you’re already gorgeous
There goes a black girl-lost
You have the same talent as;
Billy Holiday and Beyoncé
But you’re not in a studio
You’re pinned up against the wall in the hallway
There goes a black girl-lost
The girls smile to your face,
Behind your back they call you a hoe
The boys give each other five
For getting you to go down low
There goes a black girl-lost
Invited a boy over for sex
Changed your mind and got violated
Been out with a lot of boys
And realize this is the worst one you’ve dated
There goes a black girl-lost
You throw up everyday
And your bellies getting bigger
And still none of your family
Notice any change in your figure
There goes a black girl-lost
Your 16 could have been an ebony beauty queen
Instead your hiding a pregnancy from you family,
Nine months later
You’re the mother of a baby
That should remind you of what got you lost
Your trying to be more mature
Trying hard while your down on your luck
You apply for a part time job
But your boss likes to fuck
There goes a black girl-lost
It brings a tear to my eye
When I see you on your own
Heartbroken and lost
Feeling all alone
I just think there goes a black girl-lost
Because it isn’t societies fault
That your life’s like this
With a baby, without a man
It’s no racists’ fault that you’re so helpless
You just went down the wrong path and got lost
And from afar I watch the path
That each teardrop takes down your cheek
Maybe if you’d stuck to the path like them
That baby wouldn’t be hospitalized for another week
I look in your eyes
And wonder when you’ll mature like the rest of us
I look in the eyes of this innocent baby
And think damn, there goes a black girl lost.
